Family Law

Dallas Lawyer Lynn Carroll primarily practices in the family law area.  Whether you are contemplating divorce, or whether you need to establish your rights in relation to your children or set up child support, she and her staff can help you.  Lynn Carroll has  been working in this area for the last 15 years and is familiar with the court system, the judges and the issues that can arise.

Frequently people are afraid to even contemplate becoming involved in a legal action.  The law is complicated, and it takes years to fully understand.  I’m Lynn Carroll and I  don’t mind taking the time to explain the various processes to you.  I provide a free 30 minute consultation so that you can tell me about your situation and I can determine what can be done to help you.  Then you can decide what you want to do and what is the best approach for you.

For some people, the thought of exposing their private lives to public scrutiny is really difficult.  Over the last 15 years I have heard all kinds of stories, and I am not easily shocked.  Adultery happens all of the time.  People cheat, use drugs, abuse alcohol and become violent.    The Judges who are assigned to handle family law cases have typically been practicing for even longer, and they have heard all of  those stories as well.  They are just a part of life.

Divorce—If  you are contemplating a divorce, my staff and I can make it easier for you.  Over the last 15 years, we’ve handled divorces every day.  We know the issues involved and the problems that can arise, and we can help ensure that you get the best outcome, and help you in dealing with the emotional stress involved.

Child Support—Child support is a part of every divorce, and typically part of every paternity action.  The state has specific guidelines for how this is calculated.  However, you don’t want to deal with Office of the Attorney General or another attorney about this area without having an attorney representing you.  We can help protect you!

Custody—Nothing invokes more emotion than issues related to our children.  The Court system is very complicated in this area.  If you don’t understand the process and the approach that various judges take, you can lose them.  If you are going to have to fight for custody of yours, you need an attorney who really knows the ropes and is willing to work for you.  We will do that.

Paternity—When a child is born, the law recognizes the child’s mother as a parent.  The law doesn’t automatically do that when it comes to a father, unless the child’s parents are married.  It doesn’t matter if your name is on the birth certificate, you don’t have rights until a Court enters an order establishing you as the father of the child.  Too often, the first time a man thinks about paternity is when he is contacted by the  Texas Attorney General’s Office.  When you get that letter, it is time to hire an attorney.  If you don’t, you are risking being in debt for a large portion of your life for a child that may or may not be yours.

Modification—After a court order is entered, it is frequently necessary to go back to court to have the order changed or modified.  Typically, a parent needs more income for the children, or changes need to be made to the possession schedule.  We can make the process easier for you.

Adoption—Frequently, an adoption occurs because of a marriage that includes a ready made family.  Other times, it occurs because the natural parents are deceased, incarcerated or otherwise unable to provide for their children.  Sometimes it occurs because of infertility or other issues.   If you have decided to add to your home, and make a child a part of your family, we are here to help you.
